From Modder to Marine to Product Leader
I got into military simulation by modding Operation Flashpoint as General Barron. That led to a job in 2006 helping build VBS2, where I designed and scripted most of its core features.
I am also a Marine Corps veteran. I deployed to Sangin, Afghanistan as a Civilian Affairs specialist, then went back as a civilian to field smartphone apps to Soldiers for DARPA. Since then I have led design, program and product teams in Prague and Orlando. Today I lead Army and Marine Corps programs at BAE Systems OneArc (formerly Bohemia Interactive Simulations).
Experience
- Program Manager. Today I run U.S. Army and Marine Corps programs at BAE Systems OneArc, from delivery and budgets to customer relationships and account growth.
- Product Manager. Owned product delivery for the company’s largest U.S. Army account, and was Product Owner for the VBS4 launch and a major redesign of military AI behaviors.
- People Leader. Led teams of up to 40 people, coached Scrum Masters and Product Owners, and built the hiring process, promotion roadmaps and mentorship program for my department.
- Designer. Rose from technical game designer, scripting core features of VBS2, to Lead Designer and Design Director over a 15–20-person organization spanning technical game design and UI/UX design. Hired the company’s first UX design lead and built its design methodology.
Products I helped build: VBS4, VBS3, VBS2, VBS Control, DARPA TransApps, General Barron’s Operation Flashpoint Mods. Read about them.
